Reduce controller-to-cloud data usage and understand the effect on live data, remote settings and planning.
Data Saver reduces the amount of data that a Sunlight Group EMS sends to the cloud. It is intended for installations with a metered mobile connection, a limited data bundle or a low-bandwidth internet connection.
Data Saver does not stop local measurements or local energy management. The controller continues to communicate with devices, store measurements locally and run its control strategy. Only the timing and detail of cloud communication change.
| Function | Data Saver off | Data Saver on |
|---|---|---|
| Measurements sent to the cloud | New readings are forwarded without intentional buffering. | Readings are combined into one-minute summaries. |
| Cloud upload | Sent when new data is available. | Grouped and uploaded approximately every 15 minutes. |
| Live values in the app | Available with the normal connection delay. | Not live; values and charts update in batches. |
| Remote settings | A physical controller normally checks for changes about once a minute. | The controller normally checks for changes once per hour. |
| Detailed future control plan | Sent to the cloud periodically. | Not uploaded; the local plan still runs on the controller. |
| Local device control and safety limits | Unchanged. | Unchanged. |
| Local measurement storage | Unchanged. | Unchanged. |
Cloud controllers normally check for remote setting changes every five minutes while Data Saver is off. Exact timing can vary slightly with processing and connection quality.
An incomplete minute is held until that interval is complete. This prevents a partial interval from appearing as a complete one in the cloud.
This keeps totals and trends useful while sending considerably fewer individual readings.
The following functions do not depend on immediate cloud upload and continue while Data Saver is enabled:
The app can therefore look behind while the controller is still operating normally. Loss of live values in the app does not by itself mean that local control has stopped.
Enable it when:
Keep it off during:
Data Saver only reduces traffic between the controller and the Sunlight Group platform. Devices connected through a manufacturer portal, third-party API or another cloud service can generate separate network traffic that is not reduced by this setting.
The option is also shown in the initial setup wizard. After saving, the data-logging and planning services reload the selected communication settings automatically.
With Data Saver on, allow at least 15 minutes for a new batch to appear in the app. A remote setting can take up to approximately one hour to reach the controller. If measurements or settings remain outdated beyond those intervals, check the internet connection and controller status.
Older installations can retain previously customised communication intervals. If the observed timing differs consistently from this page, ask your distributor or Eniris Support to review the controller configuration.
